1. Introduction

Welcome to CareerCompass ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclosure, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our career guidance platform.

By accessing or using CareerCompass, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide to us directly when you register or participate in our assessments.

A. Personal Data

  • Account Information: Name, email address, and password (encrypted via our authentication provider).
  • Payment Data: We do not store credit card details. All payment transactions are processed through our third-party payment processor (e.g., Stripe).

B. Psychometric & Career Data

To generate your career report, we collect:

  • Responses to Big 5 Personality questionnaires.
  • Responses to RIASEC Interest assessments.
  • Self-reported career goals, education history, and employment status.

C. Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the platform. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our App, and other technical information.

D. AI Conversation Data

When you use our AI career counsellor chat feature, we collect and store the messages you send and the responses you receive. This data is retained to maintain your conversation history and provide continuity across sessions.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect or receive:

  • To generate your Report: The primary use of your data is to calculate your psychometric profile and generate career cluster recommendations.
  • To facilitate account creation and logon: Using Firebase Authentication to manage your secure session.
  • To improve our AI models: Anonymized data may be used to refine our career matching algorithms.
  • To communicate with you: Sending you your report, invoices, or critical account updates.
  • To provide and improve the AI career counsellor: Your conversation data is used to deliver the chat experience, maintain your conversation history, and may be used in anonymised or aggregated form to improve the quality of the service.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with the following third-party service providers for the purpose of running the application:

  • Authentication: Google Firebase (for secure login).
  • Payments: Stripe (for processing transactions).
  • AI Processing: Third-party AI service providers (for generating AI career counsellor responses). Your messages are sent to external AI services for processing. These providers process data in accordance with their own data handling policies.
  • Hosting & Analytics: Vercel (for application hosting).

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless otherwise required by law.

Your Rights: You have the right to request access to the personal information we collect from you, change that information, or delete it. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time directly through your account settings dashboard. This includes all AI conversation history, which is permanently deleted when you delete your data or account. Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.

6. Security

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our App is at your own risk.

7. Parent-Gift Purchases (CareerCompass for Teens)

CareerCompass offers a one-time gift purchase that lets a parent or guardian (the "purchasing adult") buy lifetime access for a teen (ages 14–18). Because this flow involves two distinct people — the purchasing adult and the teen who actually uses the platform — the data handling deserves its own section.

A. What we collect from the purchasing adult at checkout

  • The purchasing adult's email address (for the receipt, redemption codes, and milestone updates).
  • The teen's email address (used only to send the redemption invitation — optional; codes can also be shared by the parent directly).
  • An affirmative acknowledgement that the purchasing adult is the parent or legal guardian of the teen(s) they are gifting access to, and is authorising CareerCompass to send the invitation.
  • Payment information, processed entirely by Stripe — we never store payment card details.

B. What we send to the teen

  • A single invitation email containing their redemption link and code.
  • Standard product communication once they have created their account (e.g. account confirmations, in-product notifications). Marketing communication is opt-out.

Teens create their own account through a dedicated signup flow that includes an age attestation ("I confirm I'm 14 or older") and a visible disclosure of what their parent will receive (Section 7C). The teen owns the account, their assessment answers, and their conversations with the AI career counsellor.

C. What the purchasing adult receives after redemption

Once the teen has redeemed the gift, the purchasing adult may receive:

  • Milestone updates — short notifications when the teen reaches key points (e.g. they signed up, completed their first assessment, completed their first career simulation).
  • A one-page Phase 1 summary — once the teen has completed all five assessments, the purchasing adult is given a private, bookmarkable link to a summary page describing the teen's overall psychological profile, top interests, top values, top character strengths, and their best-fitting career clusters. The summary is high-level only.

D. What the purchasing adult does NOT receive

  • The teen's individual answers to any assessment question.
  • The teen's conversations with the AI career counsellor — at no point and in no form.
  • Raw transcripts, free-text reflections, or in-product decisions made during career simulations.
  • Anything outside the milestone notifications and the Phase 1 summary described above.

E. The teen's right to revoke parent notifications

At any time, the teen can disable all parent-facing notifications and the Phase 1 summary from their account settings. When disabled, no further milestone tags fire and the Phase 1 summary delivery is suppressed. Disabling notifications does not cancel the teen's access — they keep the lifetime entitlement the gift provided.

F. Refunds and revocation

Before redemption, the purchasing adult can request a refund and any unredeemed codes will be revoked. After redemption, the gift belongs to the teen and the lifetime entitlement is theirs; the purchase is non-refundable at that point.
